What's new in Nurture

Say hello to Checking for Understanding — a new Signal session type built on an established misconceptions framework. Pose a carefully-designed hinge question, watch responses land in real time, and let Nurture suggest whether to move on, revisit, or regroup — whole class or small groups.

Nurture Assessments

New

• Assignment creation: Creating an assignment with AI is now a staged, step-by-step flow — set the task up, review what’s generated at each step, and refine as you go instead of getting everything at once.
• Student insights: A new insights view pulls a student’s work together into an AI-generated picture of their strengths and where to focus next.

Improvements

• Feedback: Refining a single section now opens a full editor where you can edit directly and preview exactly what the student will see.

Fixes

• Canvas: Fixed a visual alignment issue in the create-assignment panel so it sits flush with the Canvas tray.

Nurture Signal

New

• Checking for Understanding: Run diagnostic hinge questions live in class and get AI-generated guidance on what to do next.
• Dispositions: Ask students how they’re approaching their learning with the new disposition question type.

Improvements

• Answers: After choosing an answer, students are now asked “Why did you choose this answer?” — surfacing reasoning, not just the selection.
• Session settings: The settings panel is reorganised into clearer groups, and a couple of redundant toggles are gone.
• Engagement Continuum: Hosts can turn off the preset quick-select responses if they’d rather students always answer in their own words.
• Security & reliability: We shipped a round of proactive hardening around session data access and participant identity.

Fixes

• Admin dashboard: Reactions now count correctly (the counter was stuck at zero).

The big one this week: feedback review, redesigned. Instead of building feedback through an AI chat, teachers now start from a pre-filled draft — the comment, a suggested grade and a success-criteria breakdown — ready to review, tweak and approve. Same quality of feedback, far fewer steps.

• Feedback review: Start from a complete pre-filled AI draft — comment, suggested grade and success-criteria breakdown — and review, adjust and approve, with AI help still on hand.
• Math notation: Equations, subscripts and superscripts are now supported in AI-generated assignments, the editor, and file transcripts.

Improvements

• AI editing: Ask the AI to change one part of your feedback and only that part changes — your manual edits everywhere else are left exactly as you wrote them.
• Feedback: No more drafts for work that wasn’t submitted — feedback and grades are no longer generated for students who haven’t handed anything in, and the no-submission flow makes that status clear.

Fixes

• Canvas: Approved grades for some assignments failed to sync back to Canvas.
• Microsoft Teams: Teachers and students on manually-managed rosters could hit a dead end signing in — students are now enrolled automatically the first time they open Nurture from Teams.
• AI feedback: Fixed an occasional error interrupting drafting when the AI response came back empty.
