Hear how every student is engaging, right now
Students place themselves on Dr Amy Berry’s Continuum of Engagement and say why, so you can respond while the lesson is still running.

What is the Continuum of Engagement?
It is Dr Amy Berry’s six-level continuum of how students engage with learning: Disrupting, Avoiding and Withdrawing, then Participating, Investing and Driving. It gives you and your students a shared language for engagement that goes beyond on task or off task.
Is Nurture Signal tracking how engaged my students are?
No. Engagement check-ins are what students tell you about themselves. Signal does not score or infer engagement. Separately, it can show you when a student left the session view while answering a question, which is a different signal and is described in our Security Centre.
What is the difference between a check-in and a checkpoint?
An engagement check-in asks the class how they are engaging, and students answer when they see it. An engagement checkpoint asks everyone to answer before they can carry on, so you get a complete snapshot of the room. Checkpoints are available in Engage sessions.
Should I ask students to explain their check-in?
It helps when you want to act on it. Turn on Require an explanation with each engagement check-in and students add a short reason with their position, so a student who says they are withdrawing can also tell you why. Leave it off when you just want a quick read of the room.
Is it included in the Standard plan?
Yes. Engagement check-ins and checkpoints are on every Nurture Signal account, with no plan or region restriction.
