Can Signal tell if a student used AI?

No tool can reliably detect AI-written text, and Signal doesn’t claim to.

It gives you two signals, both reported by the student’s browser:

• Pasted in: which words were pasted into a written answer and were still there when it was submitted;
• Left the view: how many times the student left the session view while a question was in front of them.

Signal only records what happens in the session. It never sees other tabs, apps, the student’s screen or another device.

Treat both as prompts for a conversation, not proof. The strongest check is still the student’s reasoning: ask them to explain their answer.
