How to Edit AI Feedback in Nurture

If you are not satisfied with the draft feedback the Nurture AI Assistant produced, you can edit and refine it. There are two ways: a structured question flow grounded in Dylan Wiliam’s pedagogy, or simply typing your own instructions into the chat.

When a student has submitted through Nurture, draft feedback and draft grading are already waiting for you to approve. You cannot send feedback to a student without approving it first: the teacher is always in the loop.

Editing with the structured question flow

Click Edit feedback to open the Nurture AI Assistant chat. You can use the structured question flow, which asks:

• Did the student make a genuine attempt at the task?
• How well did they understand the topic?
• How clearly did they show their thinking?
• How much effort did they put in?
• What is the main thing they need to work on? (choose up to two, to keep the feedback focused)

You can also add any extra context you know about the student in a free text box (for example, “this student has slight difficulty reading, simplify the language but encourage them”). Then click Generate AI Draft. The Assistant combines your answers with the student’s work and confidence comment to create a focused feedback comment in a “what went well / even better if” pattern.

Editing by typing directly

You do not have to use the question flow. You can just type a direct request into the chat, for example “add another point to the what went well section, they could do with more encouragement.”

Manual edits are protected

You can type your own edits directly into the feedback. If you then use the Assistant again, it will not overwrite your manual work.

A note on instructions between students

The Assistant does not remember instructions between individual student chats. This is a deliberate data privacy measure. To apply something to every student on a task, use custom instructions in the assistant context (open the gear icon next to the AI response). Ideally set these up before assigning the task, but you can adjust them here on the fly. Anything in the assistant context applies across every student on the task.

Once you are happy, click Approve AI Draft.
