Setting up your Classroom on Nurture and the Curriculum Boundary

Once Nurture is installed on your Teams channel, the first thing you’ll do is set it up for your class. You don’t need to add any students: Nurture automatically pulls your class list from the team it’s installed on. Anyone who is a member of the team is registered as a student, and anyone who is an owner is registered as a teacher.

So setting up your classroom is really about three things: choosing your subject, setting your students’ reading age, and uploading your curriculum boundary, the documents that tell the Nurture AI Assistant exactly what you teach.

What is the curriculum boundary?

Think of it as feeding the brain of your AI. Your curriculum boundary is a set of documents you upload in Classroom Settings that the Nurture AI Assistant draws on whenever it generates tasks, writes feedback, follows custom instructions, or produces marking schemes. The more specific and relevant these documents are to your subject, the more accurate the Assistant’s output will be.

Examples of documents you might upload: marking schemes, past exam papers, plans, units of work, resources, inspector reports, or department specifications. We recommend uploading between 10 and 15 documents.

Steps

1. Open Nurture from the tab in your Teams channel. You’ll see a Let’s Get Started screen. Click it to begin.
2. Select your subject. Choose the subject this class is for (you can only choose one). If your subject isn’t on the list, select Other at the bottom and type the name of your subject. Click Next when done.
3. Set the reading age. Select the reading age of the students in this class (for example, 15 years). Click Next.
4. Upload your curriculum boundary documents. Use the Click to upload button or drag and drop your files. Upload the documents that best represent what you teach: past papers, marking schemes, plans, resources, units of work. Click Next when you’re done uploading.
5. That’s it. Your classroom is set up and your curriculum boundary is in place. Nurture is ready to use.

Good to know

• Your curriculum boundary is the overarching brain for the Nurture AI Assistant across everything you do in this class. At various stages (like creating a task), you’ll also be able to upload individual documents for a specific task, but the curriculum boundary is what shapes the Assistant’s understanding at a foundational level.
• The more relevant your uploads, the better the output. Generic or overly broad documents won’t help as much as specific ones tied to your actual syllabus and marking expectations.
