Transcribing Handwritten Work with AI in Nurture

If a student handwrites their answers or works on paper, you can upload photos of their work and Nurture will still generate feedback and grading. There is also an optional transcription feature that turns the handwriting into readable text.

Uploading handwritten work

1. Open the student and click to upload their work, just as you would with a document.
2. Select the photos of their work. On a tablet or a device with a camera, you can snap a photo directly in the app. On a laptop, upload the photo files.
3. Click Generate Draft. The Assistant generates the feedback and score.

The optional transcription feature

While the draft generates, you can transcribe the photos if you want. Click Transcribe and Nurture turns the handwriting into text. When there is a line break in the student’s handwriting, Nurture inserts a line break in the transcription so it matches what they wrote.

Transcription is completely optional. Feedback and grading work whether or not you transcribe. It is just there so you can read handwritten work more easily without opening each image. This is the same whether you uploaded the photos or the student submitted photos in Nurture directly.

The one caveat

Nurture’s transcription is accurate for most handwriting, and feedback can reference the student’s handwritten work. But if handwriting is very difficult to read, transcription and feedback accuracy will drop. That is the one limitation with handwritten work.
