Refining and Editing Your Tasks with AI

Once you have generated a task in Nurture (no matter how you created it), you can refine and edit it using the Nurture AI Assistant before assigning it to students. Everything in this tutorial works the same whether you started from scratch, from a worksheet, from an exam question, or from a task code.

What you can edit with AI

There are three things you can edit with the AI:

• Task questions (click Edit with AI above the questions)
• Success criteria (click Edit with AI above the success criteria)
• Marking scheme (click Edit with AI above the marking scheme, provided you have already generated one)

Everything else (maximum marks, due dates, assigning to students) is adjusted manually.

How the editing interface works

When you click Edit with AI on any section, a panel opens with your content on the left and a chat interface on the right. You can type whatever change you want into the chat, or use the quick options provided.

Each editor only touches its own section. When you are editing questions, only the questions change. When you are editing success criteria, only the success criteria change. They are kept separate so editing one never accidentally changes another.

You can also switch between a thinking response (generally better quality) and a faster response before requesting a change.

Editing task questions

Open Edit with AI on the questions. You can ask for anything: “simplify the language”, “add a question on [topic]”, “change question 3 to multiple choice”, or any other instruction. The Assistant updates the questions on the left and confirms what it changed in the chat.

Once you are happy, click Save and Close.

Editing success criteria

Same process. Open Edit with AI on the success criteria. Quick options include things like rewording an outcome, reducing the number of outcomes, using stronger verbs, or adding an outcome on a specific skill. You can also preview how the success criteria will look to students.

Click Save and Close when done.

Editing the marking scheme

By default, Nurture does not generate a marking scheme when you first create a task. You generate it separately. The AI-generated marking scheme is very detailed by default, which is intentional so that grading later on is as specific as possible.

If it is too detailed for your use case, you can edit it with AI. For example, you could ask “I do not want partial marks per question, make this simpler” and it will simplify the structure.

You can also ask it to add exemplar answers to tighten things up further.

Important tip: if you change your questions after generating a marking scheme, remove the marking scheme and generate it again. Otherwise the marking scheme may reference questions that no longer exist, or miss questions you have added. Always leave the marking scheme as the last thing you finalise before assigning.

How the marking scheme factors in

The marking scheme is based on whatever questions you have set and whatever maximum marks you have entered. It splits the marks across questions according to that total.

The marking scheme is hidden from students by default. You can choose to show it if you want, but if it contains answers you would not want to. Later, when you are creating feedback, the marking scheme is what the grading is based on.

Manual edits

You can also make manual changes without using the AI: add or delete success criteria, add supporting material, adjust the questions directly, or change any field by hand.
