Overview of How Creating and Publishing Feedback Works in Nurture

This is a high-level overview of how feedback works in Nurture. It covers how you create feedback for students one at a time, and how you then publish it to them. The detail on each part is covered in the tutorials that follow.

Practise with a sample assessment: you can try all of this before using it with a real class. Click the gear icon and select Sample Assessment. Nurture creates a task with fake student submissions for you to practise on.

The two-step process

Feedback in Nurture works in two stages. First, you review each student’s work individually (their feedback and, on a graded task, their score). Then, once you are happy, you publish feedback to your students. Reviewing a student does not automatically publish anything to them. Publishing is always a separate, deliberate step that you control.

The three lists

On the task page you will see three lists:

• To review: students you have not finished yet.
• Reviewed: students whose feedback and score are set, but who have not had feedback published to them.
• Published: students who can now see their feedback.

Inside a student’s submission

When you open a submission you can see the student’s confidence level, the personal comment they left you, and their work. If a student typed their answers into Nurture, you will see them here. If they submitted or handed their work in another way, you can upload it (covered in a later tutorial).

Below that is the personal feedback section. Once a student’s work is present, the Nurture AI Assistant drafts feedback automatically. You can approve the draft or edit it further. On a graded task there is also a score section that works the same way. On an ungraded task there is no score section.

What you need to mark a student as reviewed

Only two fields are required: the feedback comment and the score. On an ungraded task, only the feedback comment is required. If either required field is left blank, the student moves back to the “to review” list.

Two things are optional:

• Success criteria the student needs to work on: the Assistant selects these for you, and they tell the student which criteria they did not meet. You can turn them on or off.
• Score breakdown: if you remove it, the student just gets their final grade without the breakdown. Not required to mark a student as reviewed.

Publishing

Once you have reviewed as many students as you like, click Publish Feedback. When you publish, you are asked how students should reflect on their feedback. Students then complete a reflection to unlock their grade: they can see their feedback once published, but their score stays hidden until they reflect.
