This tutorial covers everything you need to know about assigning tasks to students, setting due dates, and scheduling tasks for later in Nurture on Teams.

Canvas users: if you are using Nurture on Canvas, assigning, scheduling, and due dates are all handled directly in Canvas itself. See the “Creating Canvas Assignments with Nurture” tutorial for details.

Assigning to students

By default, tasks are set to assign to all students. Your class list is pulled directly from whatever team you have installed Nurture on. Any members of the team are recognised as students.

If you want to assign to specific students only:

  1. Click the X on “All students” to remove the default.
  2. Select the individual students you want to assign the task to.
  3. Only those students will receive the task.

Setting the due date

Set the date and time the task is due. By default this is set to roughly a week from today, but you can change it to whatever you need.

Important: Nurture does not block students from submitting after the due date. This is deliberate. We do not want to prevent a student from submitting late if they still want to. However, if a student submits after the due date, they receive fewer engagement score points. So there is still an incentive to submit on time, but no hard cutoff.

Scheduling a task

If you do not want the task to go out to students right now, you can schedule it for a future date and time. Set the date and time you want, and the task is queued and ready to go. When that time arrives, it goes out to your students automatically and they should receive a notification in Teams.
