Nurture is pre-installed on Canvas. Open your Nurture settings to set your subject, reading age and curriculum boundary.

Watch the video above, or follow the steps below.

Setting up your classroom and curriculum settings on Canvas is slightly different from Microsoft Teams. On Canvas, Nurture is installed directly at the school level, so there is no install or setup process to go through. Instead, you get all the same functionality through your Nurture settings.

How to access your settings

  1. Open one of your Canvas courses.
  2. On the left side, find Nurture Settings in the course navigation. This might be named slightly differently depending on your school’s setup, but anything related to Nurture there will open your Nurture settings.
  3. Click Nurture Settings and let it load.
  4. Click the gear icon.
  5. Click Classroom Settings.

What you can set

Everything here works exactly the same as it does on Microsoft Teams:

  • Subject: choose the subject for this class.
  • Student reading age: set the reading age for your class group.
  • Curriculum boundary: upload, delete, and edit the documents related to your curriculum. These are what the Nurture AI Assistant draws on to keep tasks and feedback specific and accurate to your subject.
  • Default AI reasoning effort: choose the default for this class between a faster response and a thinking response. This is only the default. You are not locked into it, and you can change it whenever you use Nurture. It just sets which option appears by default throughout the app on Canvas.

Good to know

  • Your changes auto-save in the background as you make them.
  • Once set, these settings apply across all of your Canvas assignments for this class.
  • Because Nurture is pre-installed on Canvas, there is no need to add students or install anything. You just manage your settings and curriculum here.
