How to Edit AI Grading in Nurture

This tutorial covers how the Nurture AI Assistant grades work, and how to edit a grade you do not agree with. It starts at task creation, because how you set up your marking scheme or rubric is what makes grading accurate later.

What actually informs a grade

Three things influence grading:

• The questions in your description (grading is always against these).
• Your marking scheme.
• Your rubric.

The marking scheme and rubric are the two things that really guide the grade. If you have neither (just a maximum marks), the Assistant will still grade, but it will be generic with no guidance behind it.

You can type a marking scheme into the text field or upload one as an attachment. Rubrics can only be uploaded as a file (there is no text field for them).

Important: every question in your description needs something related to it in the marking scheme or rubric. If a question is not covered, students may be graded inaccurately.

Generating a marking scheme (save it for last)

If you want Nurture to generate a marking scheme, do it last, after your questions are final. Each time you generate, it is based on your most up-to-date questions. So if you add questions after generating a marking scheme, remove the old one and generate a fresh one.

Editing a grade

To edit a student’s score, open the grading editor. You can use the quick suggestions or type your own instruction (for example, “be stricter on the essay evidence”). The Assistant follows your instruction and updates the score. You can keep iterating until you are happy.

Key point: accurate grading comes back to a well set-up marking scheme or rubric.
